Acts of patient violence declined at several psychiatric hospitals in London following a comprehensive cigarette smoking ban implemented in conjunction with access to nicotine replacement therapies, researchers reported.

A 39% decline in the number of physical assaults per month was reported at the four hospitals after the indoor and outdoor smoke-free policy was put in place, reported Debbie Robson, RMN, PhD, of King's College London, and colleagues in in Lancet
